Default Turned away from Targetmaster for flip flops.

To preface, I wear flip flops whenever there's not snow on the ground unless I'm at work. I've shot there dozens of times in flip flops. This afternoon my dad, brother in law, and I go in wearing flip flops and get told that they don't allow us to shoot in "flippy floppies" and that we could go to Goodwill and get socks and come back. They didn't give any reason, or justification. I told them I'll just shoot somewhere else, put back our targets and backers, and left quietly.

I understand the risks that can come with flip flop shooting when standing near the backstop, but at TM, you're always 30 yards away. I've never had backslash hit me that far. I could see how hot brass on feet would be uncomfortable, but it's not going to create a more unsafe situation than getting caught in my collar, and that happens frequently. I'm also struggling to figure out how they think I'll be safer in socks. I've never seen ballistic socks (and I'm pretty sure they don't sell them at goodwill). Aside from looking like a simpleton, I don't think walking in socks in flip flops would be comfortable or safe.

There is no posted rule there, like the "NO CELLPHONES ALLOWED IN BUILDING" or "no backwards hats" rules that would indicate we were doing anything wrong. It seemed like an arbitrary rule, like their not letting me shoot certain ammo there, even though I bought it there a couple weeks earlier (when I pointed that out, they said I could shoot it). It seems like their need to control my habits and clothing has cost them some money this time, since we were in for 3 ranges, ammo, and my brother in law was going to purchase a mossberg persuader. I'm done spending money there. They obviously feel like they don't need anyone's business (evidenced by their $350 dollar spam cans of mosin ammo, arbitrary rules and poor customer service), and unless we stop patronizing them, they'll be right. I'm sending their owner an email asking what the reasoning is for the socks rule, and when it went into effect. I'll keep you posted.

What's the next closest decent range? My dad's looking for a place to shoot, and doesn't want to drive up to lprgc every Friday.

ETA: I didn't see rules posted there to that effect. They are posted on their website.

Crocs are more manly than flip flops.

I think the fact they told you to go buy socks at goodwill doesn't make any sense. If they are going to enforce the rules do it 100% not halfed ass. I'd still email the owner.

I think I will, many of those rules have absolutely nothing to do with safety. It is their prerogative to have/enforce them, just as it is mine to shop elsewhere. Again, thank for posting those rules, I didn't see that in the store.

Unless you are a member there, or are there with a member, you may not like the experience.

Having been to TM many times, I find this funny. I wouldn't get my hopes up at getting a reply, much less a positive reply.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I would think that they're probably more worried about trip and fall with flip flops than hot brass.
