Flea market pistols
Seen a guy at the flea market selling a couple of pistols. He was really trying to push them on me. When I told him that they need to be transfered, he said no, it'll be OK. I said I'm REAL sure that's illegal. He just shrugged and walk over to a different customer. Didn't seem to care.
Could of been a sting but I don't think so. He was more like a professional junk dealer/seller.
For the record they were a Iver & Johnston 22 and a H&R top break 32. Neither one is a high dollar weapon.

Re: Flea market pistols
As I understand it, don't most handgun sales need to go through an FFL and a PICS check? I was under the impression that handguns can only be transferred without an FFL up and down direct relations (parent to child or vice versa).
I don't know, since I'm the only member of my family who owns guns. All my handgun purchases have gone through an FFL."When I hit it, I expect it to fall the hell down and die!"

Re: Flea market pistols
I can't even begin to imagine how many firearms are sold that way every single day - with no ill intent - because people simply do not know the laws.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Flea market pistols
If I came across the right gun at the right price at a flea market, I'd offer to drive the guy to an FFL, maybe throw a few extra bucks at him to to help talk him into going as well. As long as they're legally his guns of course. Otherwise, I'd just walk away.

When I was selling a bursa .380 on another forum, you would be surprised how many people didn't want to go through a ffl, even locals.

Re: Flea market pistols
If the handgun is either 50 years and one day old (provable by serial number) or on the C&R list, and you have a class 03 ffl then you can swap your freshly signed 03 and cash for the handgun. No need for any other record other than putting it in your bound book. A copy of, or number of a DL also helps when entering it. The best $10 per year I have ever spent! Dave_n

Re: Flea market pistols
If the guns were made before 1898 they don't need to be transferred.

Re: Flea market pistols
Maybe it's the flea market loophole
If the right/wrong guy comes along he'll be leaving in handcuffs.

Re: Flea market pistols
I once new a man who decided that he would not be buying anymore guns unless the seller would not go through a FFl.
