Default Mother Jones writer accidentally films himself...committing felony

Here's the Mother Jones article, with video:

    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...building-party

He's in California. If you look @ 1:20 in the video, you can clearly see that the magazine lock is mounted too far back, allowing the magazine to be detached without the use of a tool:

Combined with the fact that it's a semiauto, and that it has a pistol grip, he's filmed himself committing a felony.

He also mentions how he performed an improper demil. Thus, since California requires transfers of long-guns to be performed at an FFL, he illegally transferred the rifle when he left it for the "garbage truck":

Back in my garage I use a grinding wheel to cut the receiver in half and the other components into pieces. I put the scraps back in the cardboard box the kit came in and leave it for the garbage truck.

I don't know where he lives, but in places less liberal than Kommiefornia it's also a crime to put clean metal in the trash.

I say this primarily because the guy destroyed a perfectly good gun. In my world, be it a gun, a screwdriver, or a pencil, if it works and you destroy it you're an asshole. Wasteful pig.

This one is going to be fun to watch.

I was talking to some cops in SoCal when I was there recently and they said the big gun problem was Chinese made AK's being smuggled over the Mexican border and ending up on the streets with the gangs. The cops in Pomona were outfitted with body armor like you would see on soldiers in Afghanistan.

Is there anyway to verify this information (don't doubt you, just wanted to use this in a discussion on another forum and I know I will get asked for a source)

It was just some cops I was talking to when I was out there. Haven't heard it in the media and if true, which I have no reason to doubt them, I doubt you would see it since it doesn't play into the current narrative which supports restricting gun ownership by law abiding citizens.
