Preventing rust on carry gun
I just noticed some slight rust build up on my Sig that I carry often, on the side that rubs up against my exposed body when I CC. what should I do about this, to get rid of the rust and to prevent more? I think some was building up on the hammer release lever.

I used Brasso once on my 1911's slide. Just a dab on a damp rag cleaned it right up. Its been 3 years and I have not had to do it again.
Brasso is very gentle. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Preventing rust on carry gun
wipe it down with oil weekly. Guns are not magical objects that require no maintanace, the better care you take of them the better they work.

Have it refinished in melonite or some other wonderskin.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Hard chrome is a pleasingly durable, corosion-resistant finish.
The first one to use the word "sheeple" automatically loses the argument.

Use Sentry Tuf-Cloth: http://www.sentrysolutions.com/
Good enough for Benchmade and Emerson knives so it was good enough for me.My feedback thread: http://forum.pafoa.org/feedback-109/219616-rxm.html

Re: Preventing rust on carry gun
If you have a iwb holster without a leather backing between you and your slide I would suggest wiping it down at least once a week.

Re: Preventing rust on carry gun
I've rusted many a SIG over the years. Holster with a sweat shield is a good first step. I've found Eezox to basically eliminate rusting on parkerized SIGs. Just wipe down the slide and controls with the stuff and its good for several days of carry or longer.
Other options would be a near rust proof finish like NP3+ from Robar. They do the slide and controls for a pretty cool two tone.

Re: Preventing rust on carry gun
I will 2nd the Eezox treatment.
No gun I have ever treated with Eezox has ever shown even the faintest freckle of rust.
My carry gun gets wiped down with an Eezox sprayed rag about every week in the summer, and completely cleaned about every 4-6 weeks.
On the initial treatment and my detailed cleaning I spray it on and wait for it to dry then wipe the gun down.
Range guns get sprayed, 1-2 min to dry then wiped down.

I have been using Barricade for years and not a speck of rust on any of my firearms bar 2 mil-surplus firearms which had a couple of minute specks of rust on them out of the crate. Barricade also removes rust quit good.
