Default Glock 23 and Glock 27 question

I've been thinking about getting one of these as a CCW. My question is this. If I were to go with the glock 27, I would get a Pierce extender on one of the magazines, because it's too uncomfortable for me otherwise. However, by doing this, I'm not sure if you gain much by going with the 27 over the 23, except for maybe a shorter overall length by a little. My question is this: if anyone has carried both of these before, is there still an advantage in going with the 27 over the 23 if you get the extender for ccw?

From what I've read the 23 is a little more reliable?

I carry a G23 in a Milt Sparks VMII daily for 8 years now.
    I have not carried a G27.

IMO, I see no appreciable advantage in comfort with the slightly smaller G27 frame that would be worth the disadvantage in capacity, controllability and reliability.

The key to carry comfort is a quality holster & belt.

So you'll add the grip extender to the 27 to make the grip approximately the same size as the 23 ... so you'll have a gun the size of the 23 with less rounds in it.

23 is an epic win, imho.

I really like mine and carry it everywhere I can.

    Good advice above.

The difference in barrel length is almost negligble at roughly half an inch. If it is carried IWB barrel length is a non-issue. There is no advantage to the G27 carried on the hip.

If your intended mode of carry is on the ankle, the G27 makes sense, but the extender does not.

I have both the 23 and 27 and my 27 is without the extender and I have to admit I carry the 23 100% of the time anymore. I discovered first hand the little size savings of my 27 was not worth it and I am not a large build person and I have no problems concealing my 23.

Everyone here has given sound advice t hat I can say I have experienced first hand owning both.

The difference in my mind is the grip extender on the G27 only makes it longer along the front strap, but it is still shorter along the back strap of the grip and this makes the grip more concealable IWB as it sticks out under your shirt. Might help a little, but I don't see much of a difference. What you can get away with a G27 is an ankle holster. For carrying on the hip I don't see much of a difference, though the G27 will be a little more concealable, but heck, nobody ever notices on the occasions I CCW a full sized 1911 IWB with an untucked t-shirt.

Try as you might, you can never make a G23 any shorter(grip)if you need to.

I've never compared the 2 side by side though, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

    I carry a G27 w/a Pierce finger extension(not a +1).
A longer grip MAY be a problem for me if I were to be seated in a vehicle for long periods, but that's just speculation.

I've carried my G23 and G27 in the same Don Hume IWB holster. All my G27 mags have Scherer grip extenders.

The G27 seems a little more concealable to me when carried that way. I'm not sure if it's due to the smaller size or the lighter weight due to less ammo capacity in the G27 mag than the G23 has.

I'd say go with the G23 if you're going to carry exclusively in a holster on your hip. Occasionally I carry my G27 in a pocket in condition 2. I couldn't get away with carrying a G23 in a pocket. That's the only advantage I think the G27 has over the G23.

I can't shoot my G27 well enough without the grip extensions, so all my mags have them. I just have to deal with the extra bit of length in the grip when I'm carrying it.

I've had both as well.. if you're going to put the extension on the 27 you may as well get the 23 unless you're also thinking about ankle carry at some point w/ the stock mag.

    Go for the 23.
