Default Cleaning stainless steel revolvers !!??

Fired my Ruger SP101 a couple of times. I always clean it after shooting. The face of the cylinders have a stubborn black residue from the powder ignition.

I have scrubbed them with Hoppes #9, wiped them dry, finished with Rem oil, and wiped lightly. I also use CLP when I have it.

For the most part the powder residue stains still show.

Is there ANYTHING that will effectively brighten this surface?

The rest of the gun cleans up fine.

I have used a product called Flitz to sucessfully remove this residue. Use it sparingly as to not get the cylinder or barrel gunked up. Flitz comes in a silver tube and costs about $10. It's light blue in color and acts as a very fine metal polish. I put a tiny bit of it on a cleaning patch and the residue stains come off with a little effort.

Lead Away cloth. A few wipes, and the cylinder for my SS SRH is just like new.

Mother's mag wheel polish. Can be found at any auto parts store.

I agree with Steve. Lead-Away works BUT DO NOT USE IT ON A BLUED GUN (caps are deliberate). Equally, a bronze toothbrush and Ed's Red works wonders, or can use a copper chore boy. Dave_n

    Scotchbrite pad and Hoppes.

    or

Flitz and low speed dremel buffer.

They can be very stubborn and you do need to work a bit harder to get them out but patience will prevail.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

You have already been given good advice but I'll offer my input as well. I bought a bottle of Wallys Stainless Steel Cleaner at a gunshow for four dollars. With only a few drops and minimal brushing it made my SP101 look like new. Look it up on the internet, its definately worth it

I use the cloth as described by Steve. Flitz is a fantastic product that every gun owner should have. It has many other uses as well. I also use a product called RB-17 on stainless cylinders. I don't know if it is available anymore, but is a great ammonia based cleaner.

I also use the mothers mag wheel polish, was like 5 bucks at autozone, can get it at wally world etc. Works wonders and powder burns come off with limited effort.
