Latest Scotia Range Hours
FYI- was out to Scotia last weekend, thought I would just use the Aux. range since the main range hasn't been open on weekends for a while.
Latest hrs. posted on the gate are:
Mon-Thur 8:00 am to 6:30 pm
Fri-Sun 10:00 am to 6:30 pm

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
Thanks for the info. Been itching to go fire some rounds, and trying to guess when they're open usually ends badly for me when I want to use the primary ranges for rifle & handgun.

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
I haven't been there in years. What's the longest rifle range they have?
Are they still unfriendly to the evil black rifles?

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
What he said ^^^^ wrt to the evil black rifles @ Scotia, at least on the primary ranges. Just don't act like that carload of nimrods that rolls in, disrupts the line setting up, then wants to mag dump their SKS/AK/AR/etc. I've shot plenty of battle rifles out there in the last couple years with no problems, actually even engaging in conversation about ARs and M14s with one of the range officers on one occasion. As for the auxiliary range, well you're on your own over there. I'm not gonna go into the safety & behavioral issues I've encountered over there, but suffice it to say it can resemble a free-fire zone at a city dump more than a casual plinking area sometimes.

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
Scotia was closed today and is closed tomorrow (6/15/2013) for a hunter's ed program... looked like everything but the 1st Aux. range was roped off.

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
Where the hell do they list these things?
Went with my brother and took a bunch of new shooters there today. First time at Scotia and its a madehouse and CLOSED! WTF!
Took me 10 minutes on google to even find what kind of even was taking place! I would have never found it if I didn't know what to look for!

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
I believe it was a youth hunters ed event, the only place I ever see notification of range closure is paper that is poster up on the gates and at the maintenance facility they have inside the gate where you sign in. Would be nice if they put something on the signs at each end of the range road indicating that it was closed for a special event.

Plan to buy my Scotia Range shooting permit. Is it necessary - are they checking to see if you have a permit? What are the consequences if you don't have one?

Re: Latest Scotia Range Hours
You need the permit or a hunting license. There was a guy over near Pittsburgh tried to pass off a forged one recently. I think that little bit of stupidity cost him $1100.
PGC website has a page about the ranges, currently it shows some closures for maintenance on 2 ranges.

I went one time, turns out the local cops had it reserved for a shoot. After that, I would call the PGC region office and check before heading out.
