Yet another encounter with a New Yorker.....
This time it was pretty neutral and not in my neighborhood....
I was driving home tonight and saw an older guy pushing a motorcycle across the Hill to Hill bridge in Bethlehem. I drove around the guy and parked on the far side since there wasn't any place to park on the bridge. I got out of my truck to help and neglected to make sure my shirt was still covering my pistol. I approached the guy and:
Me - Want some help?
Him - I don't want any trouble....
Me - It's no trouble.... let's get you out of traffic.... you're gonna get run over...
Him - OMG, is that a gun??? I don't want to get shot... do what you want....
Me - WTF??? [then I realized my pistol was showing] I'm not a criminal.... do you want my help or not?
Him - Sure.
We pushed the bike the last 50 yards or so across the bridge and pulled it off the road near the Masonic Lodge. While I was pushing the bike, I noticed the NY license plate.
Him - Thanks for the help, I gotta say I was a little freaked out when I saw your gun. Are you allowed to walk around like that?
Me - Yes, I have a LTCF.
Him - Oh, Ok.... where I live, only cops can legally carry guns.
Me - It's different here.... Do you have someone you can call for help?
Him - I just need to get to a gas station... I ran out of gas again. I have a small can in my bag.... can you point me in the direction of a gas station?
Me - There's a station a few blocks over, I can give you a ride if you like.
Him - No thanks, I can walk a few blocks... maybe this will serve as a reminder for me to keep better tabs on my fuel level or pay someone to fix the god-damned fuel light on my bike.
We shook hands and parted ways. So aside from his initial reaction, I think this was a decent encounter. I found it to be a little refreshing since I've had nothing but bad encounters with NY/NJ people since Sandy Hook. When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

Made me think of the VW commercial...
Cashier: "I don't want any trouble."
Customer: "I don't want any trouble either."
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Maybe you should have a bible on the other hip, and then you could remind folks of what the _____ said about small town Pennsylvanians.

Re: Yet another encounter with a New Yorker.....
Great post! I'm just amazed though at how knee-jerk his reaction was. They are so brainwashed by their local and state governments and media to think that GUN equals EVIL. I'm glad you were able to give him a good impression. And as a fellow motorcyclist thanks for helping him out.

Did those other New Yorkers put a sign on your back or something? I can't believe all the nonsense you've run into with out of staters.
Keep the faith.

Re: Yet another encounter with a New Yorker.....
I've had nothing but bad luck with out of staters recently.
As we discussed on the phone.... I've been bombarded at work by anti-gun people and they are relentless but it seems to have lightened up recently, even though I haven't been the "best representative" for gun owners.
Since the terrorists were on the run in Boston, my argument with the anti-gun people has been "Look at what's going on in Boston right now.... 2 terrorists are on the run desperately looking for a place to hide out. If they showed up at your house, wouldn't you want a way to protect your family?" This seems to have shut them up for the time being.....When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.
