Question Scout scope vs. regular scope

Which is better as a "jack of all trades" scope, a forward mounted scout scope, or a traditional over the reciever scope ? This will be for hunting in brush, & under 300 yard shots. Also what would be the best power ? ( 2.75x7 for scout, 3x9 for regular)

The scout scope is far better.

Depends on the shooter and what your preferences are.
Scout scopes or Long eye relief scopes have advantages and drawbacks. LER scopes have smaller diameter objectives, which translates to poor performance in low light situations. One advantage the LER scope does allow is bringing a target into aim much faster that a standard scope, and with practice can allow for both eyes open shooting which allows for rapid target tracking. LER scopes do not have magnification equivalent of the standard scopes and a generally setup for shots on closer targets. This does not mean that long distance shots cannot be taken it just means that if distance is more of a serious factor a Standard optic would be better suited.

If you plan on needing to take quick shots in normal light, and the ability to rapidly track then yes a scout scope would be ideal. If you plan to take longer distance shots where quickness is not as important as shot placement then a standard scope would probably be better suited for you.

If your cheekweld is solid and you match the rings to your NPA then there is no point to a scout scope.

Both eyes open is valid even with very high mag scopes. I drilled a whitetail on the run this year at 200 yards on 20x. It's not voodoo.
