Can anyone help me with my luger, I know it is a mauser s/42 but their are no other marks. Where should I look and what should I look for to help determine more about it?

I've owned a few so I have a "basic" understanding of them. Is there a chamber date on it? It should be on top of the pistol, above the chamber. And, are the numbers matching? There should be the last two digits on most parts unless it was over-buffed and refinished.

byf was also the code for Mauser which I think they switched to in 1940.

Tom Whiteman is a knowledgable collector and seller of Lugers; I've bought a few from him. He has a business called Legacy Collectibles www.legacy-collectibles.com located in Paoli PA. You can contact him through the website and I'm sure he'd have ansers for you. Also pics would help tremendously!
