    Default Unexpected open carry benefit

I have been coming around to the idea of open carrying more.

I get tired of people "freaking out" at the mention of a gun. I think if people see more guns they will get used to it. If not, I am doing nothing illegal.

Anyway, I was dressed in a shirt and tie and was going into a convenience store. I thought, "I can hide my gun or take it off but what the heck, I'm just going to walk in with it on my hip."

I got a cup of coffee and when I went to the counter and tried to pay the owner insisted that I take it for free. I also insisted on paying but in the end accepted the free cup of coffee.

So open carry = free coffee

In all likelihood he thought you were a detective.

Most likely, the clerk thought you were a police officer.

A lot of places give free coffee (and other things) to officers... though I know in some jurisdictions the officers aren't supposed to accept.

Any comments from the clerk? Any comments about your gun? I figured that same thing, he probably thoght you were a police officer. OR, he figured that if he gave you a free cup o joe you wouldn't rob him

Or a Real Estate agent's office, for that matter.

When I worked retail (Turkey Hill), I always took the money from LEOs for coffee/snacks, then handed it back as 'change'. Not their fault I gave them the wrong change for their stuff. Though I had one out-of-towner not even bother to offer to pay. Just waved and went to walk out, I stopped him and asked that if he was planning to steal our coffee, let me know so I could call the locals over.

No comments from the clerk/owner - a pakistani.

I am pretty sure he assumed I was a police officer.

My daughter spent a stint as a convenience store clerk and always loved it when police officers came in. Her owner told her to give them free coffee to get them to come around more often.

I'm going to give that car dealer thing a try

He'd probably come away with a free, 'lousy tasting' cup of coffee!
