Marylander Moving to PA
Hello future neighbors! My wife and I have begun the process of selling our home in Maryland and moving to PA. We need to stay within reasonable driving distance of our aging parents so it looks like we'll buy in Western York or Adams County. We'll be out of here before October 1st (the effective date for Gov. O'Malley's new anti-gun bill).
I currently have a Utah CCW and I would like to know if that covers me for concealed carry in PA until I qualify in terms of residency? I would anticipate that I will need to show residency in PA for some period of time before applying for my LTCF. Does my Utah permit work for the interim? (Not looking for legal advice here, just some words of wisdom from those of you who've walked this path before me.) Thanks in advance!Moving to PA as soon as I can sell my house in O'Malleystan.

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
As of right now Utah does cover you but you are not exempt from the federal gun free school zone.
PA has no waiting period. Get your Pa DL in the morning and submit your PA LTCF app in the afternoon.
I have heard the York County Sheriff is much faster, days instead of weeks, but PA says they have 45 calendar days max to process.
Welcome to PA and PAFOA. I moved here from MD in 2005, I think you'll like it.While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Welcome new neighbor,
yes you should be good for now, as PA and UT share reciprocity.

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
The Utah is still good but also any license is good in a moving vehicle so you're covered there plus you can open carry since a license is not required in pa to open carry unless you're in Philly or in a moving vehicle
You don't need to worry about number 2 since you have Utah, you can conceal though if you wanted with your UtahNra, SAF, NJ2AS, GOA member

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
Once you move in go get your drivers license then go to the sheriffs office and get you License to carry firearms. It's that simple. Then fill up on as much info about PA law as possible and carry away.

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
At least for now, PA is a legal gun owner's paradise compared to MD, and many other mid-Atlantic, and N.E. states, but I am sure you already know that. We are working hard to keep it that way, and make it even better! Welcome.

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
I moved up to PA from the People's Republic of Maryland in July of 2012. I turned in my LTCF app on a Tuesday morning and picked up my LTCF on Wednesday.
The only "negative" part of my move was PennDot. While making small talk with the guy behind the counter I asked if he sees a lot of Marylanders moving to PA. He replied "too damn many, why in the hell don't you people go back where you came from". He was serious. Great way to welcome a new neighbor. Everyone else I have met has been very welcoming and I love living in York Township.

FYI here is a PDF so you know what to bring to get your PA DL.

Re: Marylander Moving to PA
I know there were some changes regarding to Pa residents that require them to have a Pa LTCF to carry within the state, So i'm not sure if your Utah permit will be valid once you get a Pa DL, But until then carry on.
I think residents were given 120 days to get the LTCF not sure when that time is up but someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.
