Default Can my son own a firearm

My son will be 18 this June. When he was 16 and we lived in Maryland he pulled a prank that turned out very bad. He made a stink bomb (tea bottle filled with urine and baking soda) and left it in the hall at school. He was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and "construction of a mock/false destructive device" which was a felony with a maximum possible sentence of 10 years. He was convicted of the felony and sentenced to 120 hours of community service, which he completed. Will this conviction received as a minor in maryland prevent him from owning firearms as an adult (18+)?

You should consult a lawyer. but at first blush I would say he is banned for life unless he can get a pardon.

You need to talk to a lawyer, or he should if he turns 18 before then.

If he was tried as an adult - he's probably fucked for life.

If adjudicated delinquent - he's probably fucked for another 10-15 years.

Either way, he should not expect to be able to own a gun when he turns 18.

    You left out a word.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

He was adjudicated delinquent. I saw the list of banned for life and banned for 15 years offensives. Bringing a weapon to school was on the 15 year list. That wasn't exactly his charge but I bet it's close enough. One more thing to add to the list of steep repercussions i told him were possible when you do stupid things when you're young. I will reach out to Gunlawyer for next steps. Thanks everyone.

How does Urine and Baking Soda make a stink bomb?
I thought that was a baby gender test.

It didn't. Someone told his dumb a** it would. What it did do was get him arrested, a night in juvenile jail and me several thousand dollars in legal bills.

Can you even have guns in the house with a convicted felon (assuming he lives with you)?

I can but he can not have access to them (this is my understanding of the law). They are locked in a gun safe.
