    Default Carrying an SA revolver?

So let me begin by saying i have ZERO intention of doing this.

I am just curious i saw a CC holster the other day for a ruger Vaquero.

Does anyone know anyone who actually CCs a single action revolver? i guess if your good enough with it its ok. But i was just wondering how well it works and if anyone has any input i am just interested in hearing opinions and stories.

Yes, I know a man who carries a Ruger Blackhawk. Personally I see nothing wrong with someone carrying what he's most comfortable and capable with.

Given lots of practice, and a good holster, I'd carry my New Vaquero. I've actually purchased a few boxes of Speer Gold Dot 250 gr JHP, just to have the option. Although I need to run many more rounds through the gun, and still need a lot of practice on the draw of a SA rather than the 1911 I'm so used to right now. If the day ever comes that I feel more comfortable with my NV than any other gun I have, it will be carried.

FWIW, Thunder Ranch in Oregon used to offer classes in running the guns used in Cowboy shooting for self defense. Apparently Clint Smith is a big afficiendo of revolvers.

I'd think a shooter who knew how to handle a SAA type revolver could hold his own, at least till he needed to reload

I don't see any problem with carrying a single action revolver. You always know where the hammer is and that makes it very safe. You might not get off shots as quickly, but at the same time they will probably be more accurate because of the forced action of cocking the hammer and reaiming.

I think the biggest problem with carrying a cowboy gun is that you would look like a trigger happy cowboy.

youtube bob munden, the man makes his single actions look like full autos and he is unbelievably accurate. i'm not saying this is an easy accomplishment but practice is all that seperates him from us mere mortals.

Hi: I like to carry my .45 Colt SA Ruger New V, 5.5 inch barrel, when I am hanging out in the woods. I had a military style shoulder holster made for it by El Paso Saddlery. It is a comfortable secure rig. I feel quite well armed with the SA. I also like it because of the history behind both the design and the cartridge.

Now here is a blog I read, this guy plans to have his SA in one hand and a Coldsteel Gurkha in the other. Wow!

    Check it out:

Archie Gates: No unnecessary shots, Conrad, 'cause we know what they do.
Conrad Vig: Make infected pockets full of bile, sir.
Archie Gates: That's right, Conrad, that's what they do.
