Default Does anybody know how to shoot a slingshot?

Does anybody know how to properly shoot a slingshot? A year ago or so I bought a pretty nice one when I was surfing with money burning a hole in my pocket. But when I got it, I wasn't sure how to properly shoot it; I now it's pretty basic but if you're right handed, does your right hand draw the projectile back or hold the slingshot? And how do you aim; I have seen people on TV (documentary type program not Hollywood fake crap) shoot one pretty dang accurate. I want to learn how to do that.

I searched the web and believe it or not, I think I found a subject that doesn't return over 200,000 on Google; in fact I didn't find one.

ok if your right handed the sling shot goes on yoru left hand/arm there shoudl be a little strap that goes over top your forearm,

draw back with your right, whatever you decide to put in the place you put "ammo you squeeze it together and pull back ....

have fun there a blast and can be very accurate ! i bought mine for my son but i think i use it more than he does lol

Thank you; I'm sorta pretending to know absolutely nothing just in case. I kinda figured that's how to hold it, thanks for conforming that.

Now, how do you aim it? Do you center the target between the yoke, left, right, up and down and draw back as straight as possible or do you somehow sight from the amo "thingie" down the bands?

Oh man! I used to rock the shite of my slingshot when I was little. So much fun.

Its pretty simple, grab it tight, put "bruising" object in the little object-holding-thingie, vary pulling of said object for desired trajectory speed, then...

    let go.

As far as aiming, shoot a couple, I'm not aware of any science behind it.

Did it include instructions? If not, have you tried the manufacturer?

Which type of slingshot do you have?

There are two basic types: A pouch between two string slings, and the modern elastic type. Of the elastic types, there are three variants:
    • surgical tubing & pouch
    • flat elastic band & pouch
    • surgical tubing with wrist brace

The first type requires a little practice, as there are several styles of launching projectiles. Many of us are taught by David's example to swing it in a circle several times before releasing, but it can be used in a fractional arc similar to a trebuchet.

The yoke-style is more compact and is easier to aim. It should be obvious to hold the handle and pull the pouch back towards you.

On models with a wrist brace, it's the same as a regular yoke type except that the brace goes over your forearm.

Bear in mind these are as deadly as they have been for the past several thousand years, if not more so. Use caution and maintain a constant situational awareness of your target and backstop.

Way back in the olden days when I was a kid we made our our own. Find a sapling with a good fork and you're on your way. Of course back then we could still get real rubber (red) innertubes. Pouch was usually a shoe tongue. Ammo was smooth stones or if you were really lucky ball bearings, or even marbles.

Just be careful and don't hold the thing straight up vertical or you'll end up smacking your left hand. Always tilt it forward and aiming is more by "feel" than actual sighting. Just practice and it'll come.

This is exactly like the one I have (or the one on the left to be more detailed) and I can definitely tell it's has very good shooting potential.

There were no instructions but your suggestion of contacting the manufacturer is a great idea. I know they're amiable and pretty accurate. I witnessed that on a police investigation program where an investigator duplicated a gun shot ricochet off a tree to solve a crime and he hit that tree very close to where the bullet did and that alone was very instrumental in solving the crime. So they are definitely very amiable.
