Are you just looking to purchase? Then go to a gun store and buy one or as many as you please. Take valid PA ID with you & come home with a gun.
If you are looking to apply for a LTCF go to your courthouse and fill out the application. Bring $20 with you.

First of all welcome to the mostly free state of PA.

You arent in NY anymore . . . So basically forget most of the laws that were there.. .

BTW not trying to be a D__K only trying to educate, but its not a pistol permit, Its a "License to Carry a Firearm".

Step #1: Go to your local county courthouse with your valid PA ID

Step #2: Ask where or find the department for LTCF issuing

Step #3: Fill out the application

Step #4: Hand the person taqking the APP $20

Step #5: Smile for the camera

Step #6: Wait 15 minutes maybe 20 . . . (this step is longer in some counties)

Step #7: Take your LTCF from issuing agent

Step #8: Proudly carry your pistol within the laws of the state of PA

I'll point out that you do NOT need a LTCF (pistol permit as you put it) to purchase a firearm of any flavor in PA. However, get one. Even if you don't plan on carrying. It's 20 bucks and 20 minutes of your time.

And it dramatically simplifies and expands your options for transporting your pistol. Other than the (relatively low) cost and time involved there's really no downside to applying.

† And the fact that you're asking permission from the government to exercise a fundamental right, something you're already used to in spades coming from NY.

wow...thanks bunches for all the info and education. So Ill take my valid PA id to a gun store, buy a gun, buy some ammo, apply for LTCF, get some training and be good to go.. thanks again. I do have to get re-accustomed to not being in NY where I had to provide a DNA sample from my first born to buy M&Ms or anything with sugar in it.

    Not everywhere.

OP, do not be discouraged if your county makes you wait a while. Mine makes us wait up to 2 months unless we jump through extra hoops. Still, beats the PRNY. Welcome to PA.

Does anyone know if you can walk in and get your LTCF this easily in the Allegheny County courthouse? I have mine already but I sent mine via email and then took the card in to get signed and photog'd. I'm trying to get my wife to get hers and this would certainly be quicker.

The words pistol permit had me thinking purchase. I figured NY was previous residence. That's what they call their document similar to a FOID.
