Re: New to the AR scene
Welcome to the PAFOA! Glad to have you aboard!
For us to recommend a suitable AR for you, we'll need to know what your needs are. Will you be using this rifle for short range, long range, home defense or any combination. Do you want to add optics? Do you want to add devices like lights and lasers?
I don't know much about Armalite, but I have a 16" Bushmaster M4A1 clone and I really love it.

Don't forget to give us a price range, too.

Re: New to the AR scene
If I were in your shoes I would build one. When I was first looking into an AR I gave both Bushmaster and Armalite (the only two brands in stock at the local Gander Mountain) a good long look. Everyone at the time told me to build my own, as it had the potential to be cheaper and exactly as I wanted it. I ended up chickening out and buying a Bushmaster carbine as the thought of building my own firearm had me a bit squeamish at the time. It was only after I field stripped my Bushmaster for the first time that I realized "well shit, I could have built one of these, no problem at all". Don't get me wrong, I like my Bushmaster, it's a quality made weapon, but if I had a chance to do it all over again, I would have built something myself that was EXACTLY as I wanted it, not just close enough, for less than a grand. As it turned out I spent nearly $1000 on something that I wasn't 100% satisfied with and ended up throwing another $250 into it before I got it exactly the way I wanted it.

Re: New to the AR scene
I am also interested in an AR. If I may throw a question or two in as well.
1. Is a Stag Arms 2T a quality AR type?
2. As far as the gas system, is a piston type better than direct?
I would like mine for home defense/target.
Thanks.

I love my Stag, couldn't be happier with it. For the money I spent, I am very happy with the product I received."We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." -Benjamin Franklin
