    Default Juveniles 4 Justice

I recieved this email from the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) just a few minutes ago, I think it's worth taking a look...

From the Juvenile Law Center (JLC) in Philadelphia- who is the lead agency in the PA MacArthur Models for Change Juvenile Justice Transformation Project.

Please vote for their Juveniles 4 Justice project. JLC has a long commitment to the rights of youth, including resources like Know Your Rights- A Guide for Dependent Youth in Pennsylvania, http://jlc.org/publications/4/ There’s also a Pittsburgh project you can vote for, as you vote for 4 in all.

    Please pass along!

    Good Morning All,

The Juvenile Law Center is a finalist for a project called “Juveniles 4 Justice.” The project has already been awarded a grant of $10,000. The good news, and the challenge, is that the award will go up to $35,000 if enough folks vote for it on line. We would be very grateful if you'd take a couple of minutes to vote by going to http://miyo.casefoundation.org/vote/. The site will ask you to vote for four projects, so we’re asking you to vote for JLC and three others. (We have no preferences as to the other three you choose.)

JLC’s “Juveniles 4 Justice” is designed to give youth from the juvenile justice system a chance to speak out and become advocates for positive change in their own communities. JLC Staff Attorney, Jessica Feierman will convene a group of 10-20 young people. They will come together for weekly meetings, will learn about community organizing and policy advocacy, and then meet with agencies, lawmakers and the media to push for social change. The youths themselves will choose the issues they work on. It could be anything from improving schools to juvenile justice reform to better health care.

Only one vote per e-mail address/person - but if you know any friends, family, acquaintances, colleagues, folks on listservs etc. who might be willing to vote, please pass the word along! It would be great if you could circulate this to the staff of [X Y Z or YOUR MAILING LIST …].

Attached is a short, interesting story from the most recent Chronicle of Philanthropy that notes the surprisingly large turnout for this competition.

Thanks for your support, and for your help!
