Default What's a kimber "clack" worth?

Maybe a hard question to answer and let's avoid the "whatever someone's willing to pay" responses. I have been a diehard TRP fan having owned two, I'm in the market for another and came across the kimber "clackamas" 1911. Looks wise it fits the bill, I have read raving reviews, but I have also seen them priced from 700-1500 for what appears to be the same gun.

There are two on GB I am looking at, the reserve is $929, what do you guys think?

Kimber's line of M1911 handguns started in Clackamas, Oregon before moving to Yonkers. The Clackamas produced 1911s are supposedly much better built and sought after by collectors, and rare. These earlier Kimbers had no Swartz safety gizmo..

If I am not mistaken the early Yonkers Kimbers did not have the swartz safety.

thats a pretty stupid statement... did you even look at the links? what are the bells and whistles that bother you so much? also, i didn't ask for your opinion on what you thought of the guns, i asked what a fair price for a specific gun was. thanks for chiming in but go troll another thread please.

Any of the pre-series II Kimbers do not have the Swartz safety regardless of if they were make in Clackamas, Oregon or Yonkers, NY.

I think the price is too high, IMO. I do not like the look of the slide to frame fit from the back of both of them. They are plain Jane 1911's other than the BTGS, hammer, proprietary trigger ( I believe), F and R serrations, and MSH 20 or 25 LPI checkering...what ever it is. Looks like 20. Well, then again, not plain Jane, but not all the bells and whistles you can get on a Kimber, for sure.

Before you buy, consider he says they are both stock and not shot for 7 and 8 years, respectively. Pictures hide a lot, especially wear from sliding a gun in and out of a safe. If you're going to shoot them, you'll want to respring the slide right off the bat. Also, there are a few 1911's on the market that look to have a better fit for around $200, or more, less, than the reserve of $900+, and shipping, and all that. That isn't saying the guns aren't tight or don't run well. They are known for being ultra reliable during that period. I just don't like the granite chisel/hammer fit. Hate to say it, but it really does boil down to 'what do you think it's worth'? No one will fault you for buying one. You're not going to see a "CLACK" Kimber every time you go to the range. SMO
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.
