Need to ship ammo
Relative in CA asked me to ship him a small amount of ammo (60 rounds of 308))
I know USPS is out for shipping.
Fed-Ex and UPS stores won't touch the package if they know its ammo...telling me I need to go the depot (where the trucks are). Both depots are about an hour from me and are VERY inconvenient for me to get to.
Fed-Ex won't pickup at my house unless I have an account...
I assume the same is true of UPS.
How the heck do you guys ship your ammo????

Re: Need to ship ammo
When I receive ammo UPS usually brings it.

Re: Need to ship ammo
I ship both guns and ammo via Fed-Ex when needed. I use a local Postal Connections. Their big rules for shipping is
1. complete guns, parts and/or ammo must ship in different packages.
2. For shipping complete firearms OR FFL required parts, a copy of the receiving FFL license is needed.
3. Ammo must be boxed and clearly labeled with ORD-M labels.
4. Complete guns and or ammo must be shipped priority overnight, no C.O.D.
For me, locally, UPS wont ship guns or ammo, and USPS is a no-go.Last edited by DClan; March 27th, 2013 at 06:47 AM.

I printed out some orm-d labels taped them to the box and dropped them off. Noone ever asked what was inside.

Re: Need to ship ammo
I just shipped some last week with UPS.
First of all, make sure it is in sturdy packaging. Secondly, mark at least one side ORM-D in a rectangle with CARTRIDGES, SMALL ARMS around the rectangle. Then just use UPS.com to create a shipment, print out your label, affix it to the package, and simply hand off the package to a local UPS driver. You can hand shipments to any UPS driver and they will accept them for you as long as the package is already labeled.
I was actually on my way to my local UPS "Customer Center" to drop off my package and there happened to be a UPS truck right around the corner. I stopped and dropped my package off with him, saving myself about an hours worth of driving.

Re: Need to ship ammo
Shipping ammo needs to have the lable ORM-D and the cartiridge size on the outside of the box and must be dropped off at a UPS or Fed-ex HUB not a store but a HUB
or hand to a local driver, although you need an FFL/account to have them pick it up at your house (i believe)

Re: Need to ship ammo
thats what i told him...its his money though...
in any case, was trying to do this the "right way" so called both FedEx and UPS (the actual cust. service for those companies, not the "stores").
Fed Ex C.S. basically told me I can't do it..I need to have a license to ship and it has to go to a licensed dealer/distributor/manufacturer...
UPS basically told me to slap an ORMD sticker on it and either drop it off at the depot, give it to a driver, or setup an at home pickup.
