Steel shot through a Topper 48
I have a Topper model 48 20 gauge single shot. Would there be a problem using steel shot. I think it is choked full, it has quite a bit of taper to the barrel. I have some #6 and #7 steel shot.
Could I shoot buck shot through it. I was thinking #4 if I can find it.Some people just plain suck.

Re: Steel shot through a Topper 48
I wouldn't shoot steel shot out of any shotgun made before the mid 1980's unless the manufacturer specifically says it is ok. Which the H&R company who made that gun isn't the same H&R as today and they dont offer tech support for those pre'86 guns.
That model 48 is relatively old, so I wouldn't. Lead buckshot and slugs are ok - lead swages. Steel doesnt swage, it ruins lessor or untreated steel barrels at the choke.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

I kinda figured it would not be a good idea. I thought it was an older gun. Thanks for the info.
