    Default S&W 500 Problems

i was fortunate enough to pick up a S&W 500 at the recent Oaks show, 8 3/8' barrel with the interchangeable muzzle break. Now i have a few questions for anyone that owns one or thinks they can answer them. The muzzle breaks: Which break do i use for jacketed, and which one do i use for cast? Second, how do i get the muzzle brake off? I followed the instructions and still can't seem to get it to turn far enough to come out. Third question, when i tilt the gun side to side, i keep hearing a clicking noise internally? I tore it down in search of the noise and couldn't find any explanation.

The longer one is for cast.

Are you unlocking it all the way? It comes right out if you have it unlocked, correctly. Hard to say without looking at it.

Clicking sound? Could just be the cylinder rocking back and forth. It's a big, heavy cylinder and will make a little clicking noise if it's rocking back and forth. Another hard to say without looking at it. Hold the cylinder tight and see if it makes a noise when you tilt it.

Well that solves one problem, thank you. As for it not coming out, i'm positive i loosened it fully. I can get it most of the way out but then it stops.

Try Youtube on removing the break. I looked at a ton of videos on the .500 before I bought mine, which I no longer own. There are a couple that show how to remove it. I sold it to help fund a Rem. 700 rifle that I wanted, more.
