Gabby Giffords' husband buys an AR-15...
...and several days later says he was just trying to prove that background checks are too easy to pass, and he was planning to give the gun to the cops all along.
Days after making the purchases, Kelly wrote on Facebook:
I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a .45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don't have possession of it yet but I'll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do.
1. That's a straw purchase, no? Unless Gabby or one of his kids joined the police force. If he checked "no" next to "are you the actual purchaser of the firearm" he can't have the gun. So he should be cellmates with David Gregory.
2. Don't you have to have possession of the gun when you leave the store after passing NICS? You don't do the background check and then come back to pick it up a couple of weeks later.
3. A decorated astronaut passing a background check proves what exactly?

Also being discussed here...

Oops, didn't think to check that part of the site. But I see most of that thread has been spent responding to 2-3 very foolish comments.
