anyone rethinking a revolver?
I don't want to start another revolver verses pistol thread, we all know both have their advantages and disadvantages and I know there are die-hard semi-auto guys here that wouldn't pound a tent stake with a revolver. Are any of you diehards rethinking that idea after seeing what's going on with magazines and ammo these past couple of months?
Personally I've always been right down the middle on that subject, I've got an assortment of each and I like them all. While I consider a good semi-auto to be a superior combat handgun considering what would happen in a real SHTF situation and with just this little bit of an ammo and magazine shortage we've seen lately I have to wonder if a revolver wouldn't be the way to go. I know there have been many times while looking through the classifieds that I've thought "well even if I can't get any more Glock mags or 9mm rounds, at least I've got my revolver that can shoot any type of 38 or 357 without a hitch".Last edited by ray h; March 8th, 2013 at 08:11 PM.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
Your not alone thats on my list next I think and it is due to the ammo shortage and other thing goings on. I dont have a decent 22 revolver however I have been thinking 17 or 22 mag due to the ammo crisis.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
i haven't really had a problem finding .38 special. .357, yes.
maybe its a matter of economics. maybe revolver guys tend to 'shoot less ammo'.
shoot 6, reload, shoot 6 reload, etc.
VS
shoot 16, new mag, shoot 16, reload, etc.
i know for a fact, that i might blow thru half a box of revolver ammo, then i put it away, VS going through 100+ rounds of ammo when i have 16 in the magazine.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
I used to hate revolvers. Just seemed like outdated technology. Still not sure I'd ever carry one. But now I realize how pretty they are and have a short list of ones I need.

Good point about how much ammo you shoot through.
I was thinking more in terms of being able to shoot more types of ammo in a revolver (ie:38/357/wadcutter/shot/etc) that you can't do with a pistol. I think it leaves you with more possibilities if you can't find your usually brand or type and you just need something that will go bang.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
You know, this has prompted me to dust off my 2 revolvers and take them to the range tomorrow.
I have so much .38spl ammo and rarely shoot them.
I seriously want a 22 revolver.I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.[

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
I rarely put more than 5 rounds in my semi-auto mags when training. One reason so I don't get carried away and burn through all my ammo. The second reason is to promote more mag changes per training session.
As to the OP's question. I'm mostly a semi-auto shooter. But I have a Colt Lawman Mk III. I have wanted to add a smaller .38 to my collection as well.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
I prefer revolvers and have great fun standing at the range putting holes where I want them to go, then watching the looks of incredulity on the faces of people 50 years younger (with the latest and greatest piece of tupperware-based ordnance) as they cannot match the small size of the groups. Then I idly point out that the revolvers I am using (as they usually ask) were 90 to 110 years old and in calibres like 38 S&W, 32-20 and 0.455. I like old S&W M&Ps and Webleys. Dave_n

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
I wish a revolver would have been the gun i learned on. love my wheel gun. no prob finding ammo (38spl), brass, or bullets for it. I dont have to chase my brass. I come home with the same amount of brass i went with. I can load that brass for ever. I can shoot 2 calibers from it and snake shot. So i am glad i purchased one. Alot of my friends have revolvers on their wish list somewhere.

Re: anyone rethinking a revolver?
I'm looking for a nagant revolver or two. Not to replace the semi auto I carry, but because it's military surplus and I just want it! I hope having an interest in Soviet/Eastern Bloc military surplus weapons does not make me a socialist!
On the other hand, I'm sadly curious how things will go, even with revolvers, if New Jersey passes their proposed 5 round limit (unless it passed already?)....and they have a plan...
