Default Target shooting on private property.

A work friend of mine who owns about 3 acres of land in Lancaster county over heard me talking at work recently about range fees and wait times and offered me his land to shoot on. He said he has family that shoots there every now and again and it isn't a problem. He isn't interested in firearms and wasn't even sure about the calibers they shoot but said his back stop is very safe. My question is about the legality of this? Would I be inside the law with doing this considering the surrounding neighbors are ok with it?

You'd have to check the local municipality. They may have ordinances on the books regarding the discharge of firearms that could get you fined.

If it works out, can you bring a guest?

It would depend upon which township he lives in, some of them have no discharge ordinances, some allow it as long as you have a certain amount of land. Find which township, go to their website and look up their ordinances.

Just found out it is in Lancaster township and it a little less than 2 acres but in a remote area. Where would I find out if it will be ok?

Your best bet would be to check their website and give someone a call to find out if they have a discharge ordinance on the books.

I did manage to find this but who knows how accurate it is.

There is a reference to a "Peace and Good Order" clause that they could use to fine you for shooting it would seem.

From that it looks like I would be good to go. I will have my friend call the township to see what they say. Thanks again.

Just a word, Lancaster Township is now being patrolled by Manhiem Township PD. Previously they were patrolled by Lancaster City, but MTPD took it over a couple years ago. The local officers may not be completely aware of the actual ordinances of Lancaster Township.
