5.56 re 6.8 spc
What are the advantages of the 6.8 spc over say the 64 grain Winchester powerpoint/62 grain military Lake city , say within 350 yards on a Baboon. I mean would the the SPC perform a lot better terminally on say a 180 to 200 lbs. Baboon.?
Thanks Nyman.

Re: 5.56 re 6.8 spc
Based upon the .30 Remington cartridge, it is midway between the 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x39mm in bore diameter and velocity with more energy than both.
I was told that eventho 6.8 have a smaller case, modern improved powders allow the 6.8's ballistics to be very similar to that of 1950's era .280 British.
I read somewhere that Remington originaly designed 6.8 mm to deliver 40% greater energy than the 5.56 mm NATO at 100-200 yards. When compared to the more powerful and well-established 7.62 mm NATO(or .308) cartridge, the 6.8 mm falls short in all these areas, however, has less recoil and is more controllable then .308.
personaly, for Baboon at 350 yards, and you feel .223 aren't enough, but don't want to be bothered with .308, I'd just forget about 6.8SPC, and look in to AR thats chambered in 6.5Grendel...Audemus jura nostra defendere

You shouldn't use a 5.56 or a 6.8 on an animal that large at that distance.
A .308 or .270 would be a better choice.
Baboons? No offense, just curious.

Re: 5.56 re 6.8 spc
Mity2,
Its funny that you mentioned the 6.5 Grendel, i've been to a lot of the Ar !5 makers websites looking to see if they offer a upper in 6.5 Grendel and i cant find one that does, Do you know of one that Does? Let Me know i would love to check it out.
I usually deals with J&T out of Kentucky, Excellent company but they only offer 6.8 SPC. uppers.
Tony, Dont laugh but i believe i have sasquatch (big foot) in my Area, so far they seem friendly. I live on a couple acres out in the woods, not many neighbors.
The reason i say Baboons, they have a similar body type to Sasquatch.(big foot)
I have a lovely Savage in .308 with a Nikon scope , but i would like something with more Capacity but with a little more Punch/range than a 5.56.
Thanks, Nyman
