Just about any modern +P hollowpoint ammo

Remington 125 gr +P Golden Sabers is one of my favorites
Hornady 125 gr +P XTPs are what is currently in my SP101
Speer's Gold Dots, Federal HSTs are good.

And the old standby, a round that has worked for years, isn't to be overlooked either, the 158 gr +P lead semi-wadcutter hollowpoint, the old "FBI round" from any of the major manufacturers.

Here's an article from 2001 to read on the subject.

I use Federal HST HP in my 9mm.

Federal makes a hydrashok round in 38 +p & 38+p+ just be sure your gun can handle the hotter +p & +p+ rounds.

I've always heard they were the best rounds for self defense and the expansion tests I've seen bares this out.

May seem a dumb question but what type of .38. There have been numerous .38's over the years. Kind of makes a difference when it comes to bullet selection due to cartridge power level.
