Default Flying out of OH w/gun...legal?

So here's the deal. I am tentatively flying from Cleveland OH to Nashville TN to meet my sister and help drive her up for my graduation and wedding. I would really love to not be unarmed during the trip, so I was thinking about checking the gun and flying it down. My question is if I will be covered to take it into OH, cased, unloaded, etc to check it and fly it with me? I only have the PA LTCF.

    Thanks guys,

FOPA might cover you on this, unless there is a restriction on changing conveyances while traveling into, then out of a non-reciprocal state. IANAL.

BTW, if FOPA does cover you on this leg of your journey, you would be unarmed for the majority of this leg.

That is my concern right there...that the hitch would be the stop and changing of conveyance.

I understand I would be unarmed for the trip to cleveland, and I would be okay with that if it meant being armed while traveling back. I might forgo the entire thing as I think she is planning to drive back through OH...looks like a "naked" trip might be brewing.

Since you originate in Pa, have a Pa LTCF and have a TN destination which reciprocates your LTCF, you are covered by FOPA (assuming you meet all the other pre-requisites).

As to your concern during change of conveyance method (vehicle<>plane) at the OH airport, yes - you are still covered as long as you transport directly from your vehicle to the airline check-in desk. That exact issue was addressed by an Ass't US AG in a 2005 opinion letter.
