Why aren't there Militias anymore?
I never thought to pose this question until now for some reason....
Considering the wording of the 2A id have thought they'd be more prevalent.

Unless you are a real old fart, I think you are part of the militia. You just haven't been called for duty yet.

Re: Why aren't there Militias anymore?
The word Militia is so misunderstood and misused alot of organizations have dropped it from their name because of the media directly associating it with extremist groups or home grown terrorism.
Kinda like assault weapons...if you ask me there is no such thing, only semi-automatic rifles.
In contrast I think we should all refer to baseball bats as assault clubs...lets ban those too, make A-rod hit the ball with his hand & actually earn his money.

Re: Why aren't there Militias anymore?
I'd just have thought someone would make an "official" one, despite the bad connotations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militia
The term militia is commonly used today to refer to a military force composed of ordinary[1] citizens to provide defense, emergency law enforcement, or paramilitary service, in times of emergency; without being paid a regular salary or committed to a fixed term of service. Legal and historical meanings of militia include:- Defense activity or service, to protect a community, its territory, property, and laws.
- The entire able-bodied male (and perhaps female) population of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms.
- A subset of these who may be legally penalized for failing to respond to a call-up.
- A subset of these who actually respond to a call-up, regardless of legal obligation.
- A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government.
- An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers. Called by various names in different countries such as; the Army Reserve, National Guard, or State Defense Forces.
- The national police forces in several former communist states such as the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries, but also in the non-aligned SFR Yugoslavia. The term was inherited in Russia, and other former CIS countries.

Re: Why aren't there Militias anymore?
I don't think it'll ever happen, 'cause the government wouldn't have any control over them. And that doesn't suit well with the feds. And if they DID have control over a militia, they would just call it "The Army", and we have one of those.
I stand corrected.....thanks Mr. Ugly !!Last edited by ShakeyDad; April 4th, 2008 at 03:59 PM. Reason: I'm a dumb-ass !

Got me there Shakey, your right. If I use anything in my hand against you it's a weapon and I'll be charged with assault.

Re: Why aren't there Militias anymore?
Exactly......that's why I say BAN EVERYTHING !!!!!!! Any non-secured, un-stationary object shall be considered an "assault weapon", because it can be picked up and used as a "weapon" to inflict harm on another individual, therefore incurring the term "assault". So, please join me in my attempt to ban everything !!!

Re: Why aren't there Militias anymore?
Greetings from 1st Squad, Alpha Company, 41st Infantry (Light/Surveillance), PA Militia. There are
PA has the whole prohibiting "para military" thing Just don't practice or encourage to overthrow the guv'ment.
Or have a Security Company and your 11 employees have a reason to be "well regulated" by practicing Sundays at 1400 hrs. Remember, to our Founding Fathers, well regulated means practiced and drilled, not having laws imposed on them.
Just a thought.
Be safe (and well regulated).
