SD ammo for a 1911?
Any recommendations for good JHP ammo to run in my new PT1911? Once I've got a few hundred rounds of round nose through her, I'd like to star CC'ing it, but cant afford to keep buying defensive ammo to test. So I'm looking for recommendations on what you've had good results with feeding, before I go 'shooting' in the dark, so to speak.
I know I'll have to run a good bit through the gun to see if it feeds reliably, but also don't want to be spending hundreds of $'s just to throw good SD rounds away.
Any help?

If you have feed problems with your 1911 try the Pow-r-ball ammo. The hard rounded polymer cap gives the ammo a nose profile like FMJ. It's also pretty nasty stuff.

Here is a link to some great discussion on S.D. ammo and the 1911.

Hydra Shok in 2 1911 mags. The other 5 have Hornady XTP's. All feed perfectly.

For ammo to practice with and use for self defense, try hornady steel match. Loaded with hornady's 230gr hap jacketed hollow point, its affordable for target and defense. Some 1911's wont run coated steel case, but if yours will, it works pretty good.

Re: SD ammo for a 1911?
I'll keep an eye out for some Critical Defense while I'm out and about over the next week or two.
Haven't had any feed problems with the Taurus yet, but then again, I've only run 50 rounds of FMJ down the pipe so far (hopefully another 50-100 this weekend.
I'll have to think about the Hydra Shocks... That's what carry in my Star M40, and never had an issue. But I've read that the extremely flat/blunt nose can have feeding issues on the 1911 ramps. But that's all Internet chatter.

I carry Speer Gold Dot in all of my guns.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Any of the above are great suggestions. Critical Defense is a good choice if it's a little hollow point sensitive. If not, check into this as well.
