Connecticut Teen Turns Disposable Camera Into Taser
CLINTON, Conn. (AP) ― A 14-year-old student has been accused of rigging a camera so that it could deliver an electrical shock similar to a Taser.

Police say the boy modified the camera using instructions from the Internet. He brought the device to school but a teacher intervened before he could use it.

School Resource Officer Kyle Strunjo says the makeshift device is potentially capable of giving someone a 600-volt shock.

The boy has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds, attempted assault and breach of peace. He has been released into his parents' custody.

    Agreed!

And since when is a 600v Photostrobe a "dangerous weapon"? Inappropriate, yes, but not dangerous.

Sure it'll give you a nasty shock, but it won't HURT you, unless the kid rigged it with paddles like a defibrillator.

Ah, well - another person falls victim to the Nanny State. Rather then letting his parent's deal with the child's mis behavior, the government does it for them.

Yup! I remember going to school in a country once called "America."
I wouldn't be surprised if the BATFEXYZPDQ now classes the chemistry teacher's carbide cannon as a "destructive device."
When I was a kid (14-15 years old), I would to walk to the local pharmacy and buy a 5lb can of sodium nitrate for my "experiments" at home. I also could walk up to the hardware store and buy a brick of .22 Thunderbolts without the clerk even flinching.

I often tear those cameras apart to get the AA battery out before i get the file deeloped. I once got shocked doing so and it did hurt but it was not terrible.

Ever play with the piezo ignitor when putting together a gas grill? Better not in Conneticut! I could buy pellets and bbs from the hardware store by myself, but to buy 22s, I needed a note from my parents. I was <14 at the time. Rode my bike the couple of miles with the pellet rifle over my shoulder without any problems either.

Ahhhh those were the days. (boy am I sounding OLD)

A student in a local high school here got in trouble for having BBs. This doesn't surprise me at all. This is pretty much to be expected in school settings nowadays, sadly.

When I was in High School I had a couple practical jokes, one being a lighter that shocked the s--t out of you. Pretty funny until my english teacher took it. Even though she took it, I never did get in any trouble. She probably kept it for herself. LOL!!!

I would like to know how to make a taser. Sounds like entertainment for work...
