PBS show tonight - "After Newtown: Guns in America"
I just noticed this show coming up at 9:00 tonight on PBS. We'll see if it will be even-handed or just more demagoguery?
A history of guns in America, beginning with the first European settlements in the New World. Also: the political battles that have erupted over gun-control initiatives; the competing visions of national identity that guns and gun control represent.

I am sure they will cover the Battle of Athens TN, or discuss the SCOTUS case of Castle Rock v. Gonzales, or the fact that some 911 calls take 48 minutes before police arrive ( http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/12/16/...man/index.html ), or the fact that Korean store owners used AR-15's to successfully fend off looters during the LA riots, or the fact that citizens owned cannons, the largest arms of their time. I am sure it will be an even handed display of the 2A/s

The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.

Re: PBS show tonight - "After Newtown: Guns in America"
Based on the description my guess is that the show will go something like this:
Guns were very important to building America. Independence, hunting, homesteader lifestyle, defense blah blah blah
Some people have guns now. They shoot them, hunt with them, and some crazy people even carry them to protect themselves.
Times have changed. In fact, having a gun now is totally insane and unnecessary. Our Forefathers needed guns but history NEVER repeats itself so now everything is OK. People don't need guns anymore. NOW DRINK THE KOOL-AID!

It's interesting that you mention this because I was channel surfing about an hour ago and saw this show on my listing. It made me pause and wonder exactly what you posted....positive or negative on the 2A???
I'll check it out to see what it's about, but I'm certainly not expecting it to be very positive. I've seen some real liberal crap on PBS thru the years...

Was Michael A. Bellesiles involved in the "historical research" for this thing?

Re: PBS show tonight - "After Newtown: Guns in America"
Apparently, it's a week-long "dialogue." Just saw this on the PBS web site:
After Newtown Special Programming
In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, PBS continues its coverage with a series of specials from PBS NewsHour, FRONTLINE, Washington Week, NOVA, Need to Know and more, looking at gun laws, mental illness and school security.
So even if this show is decent, there's plenty of time this week for more propaganda. At 10:00 tonight they have a special about Adam Lanza.

3 minutes and they are already presenting false "facts"
