    Default 1911 and 2011

What are the technical differences between a 1911 and a 2011? I mean such as parts, function, reliabilty, and things of that nature.

Thumbs up Re: 1911 and 2011

I can't answer this question but I'm sure Lycanthrope can and will give you a very good answer.

    He'll be around shortly.

In my mind, 1911's are generally mil spec where as 2011's would be highly customized race guns. Lycan will have the definitive answer on the subject, though...

Pretty much it. Most internal parts are interchangeable EXCEPT:
    Trigger/Trigger bow...the 2011 is wider
    Magazine release.........2011 is wider
Slide release.........2011 is wider (on the unique/wide frame at least)
Of course, the magwells and mainspring housings differ.

Trigger groups and slide parts are the same.

The 2011 has a metal frame with a full detacheable polymer grip. Since many 2011's are chambered in 9mm, .40, .38 Super...etc, most have fully supported barrels. You can have your choice of long dustcover, short dustcover, steel frame, aluminum frame, bull barrel, bushed barrel.....etc.

Reliability? I know several with over 100,000 rounds. But, it's quite common for a 2011 to be a full custom gun....and the shelf guns from STI and SVI are not exactly low end. I was just tooling around with mine tonight running a 9lb recoil spring. It still feeds empty casings from the mag.
