20 gauge home defense shotgun?
Are there any decent inexpensive home defense shotguns that come in 20 ga??
I am thinking of possibly getting one so my wife could handle it..I am starting a new job working 3rd shift, and I want a gun that she would be comfortable using...she is not too fond of the handguns that I have!
I was thinking of getting a 12ga, but thought the 20ga would be nicer for her...lighter, less recoil, etc??...I just don't see many advertised...just a lot of 12 ga ones.
Thanks!

Re: 20 gauge home defense shotgun?
There are a lot of good 20 ga shotguns that are made, the trick is finding one.
Your best bet is to stop in a local gun shop and see what they have (and take her with you to help find one that fits her).-Tom

I was at Gander Mtn in Cburg looking at 20 ga guns~handled two 870s and both were around $300 used..seemed kinda high
Ammo shelves were fairly empty except for .40S&W and .45ACP..USMC 2/10 1982-85~REMEMBER FT. HOOD~

If it were me in your situation I would absolutely be looking for a 20 ga youth 870 with a synthetic stock and 18.5" bbl.

Check Dicks Sporting Goods. I saw just yesterday they were advertising a mossberg 88 available in 12 or 20 for $219.99 - I called the store to see if they had them and he said they had that model as well as a remington (cant remember which specific model) for the exact same price.
Offered in tactical also.

20g mossberg 500 with 18 1/2" barrel has sat next to my bed for nearly 20yrs for the same reason. Easy to handle, and will get the job done.

Re: 20 gauge home defense shotgun?
20 ga here too. Primarily because I want my wife to shoot and not be as timid as she might be with one of my 12's.
Got her a Remington 870 youth.
Well worth the $295 at Walmart.
We were out shooting it today and will continue each week until its second nature. While she shoots my O/U and semi's I want her go to gun to be a more reliable pump that is lighter shooting.

I recommend you look for something like a Stoeger Double Defense. I have a side-by-side in 20 gauge. It has ported barrels to cut down on muzzle flip. Pretty effective. I bought mine for about $300 for a used one.
