Re: Feb New Holland IDPA
New Holland has some very creative stages for their IDPA matches. It might be a steep learning curve for a new shooter, but it will certainly stretch your horizons quite a bit.
IDPA in general is not difficult to get into. You need a firearm (larger than .380), 3 mags, something to put the mags in (pockets are OK in the beginning), and a holster that is not super-race-tricked-out.
How much more than that you need is determined by whether you prefer to keep it realistic for how you carry or prefer to shoot it like a competitive sport.-Tom

Re: Feb New Holland IDPA
Thanks for the advice. I currently hav a g19 and required mags. I need to get a better holster. I'm as competetive as the next guy, but safe concealed firearm operation skills are what I'm trying to obtain right now. Who knows where that will lead.

Re: Feb New Holland IDPA
I don't have a vast amount of IDPA experience but I wholeheartedly agree with the above statement. In my experience, New Holland tends to turn up the difficulty a little more often than the other clubs I've shot at.
Matches are a lot of fun but don't be surprised to see a tricky prop or two and a few 30 yard shots.

Re: Feb New Holland IDPA
My son & I shot our first IDPA at New Holland last summer. It was great. We are planning to shoot again this spring.
The people are great. They will walk you through each course.
Do not worry about the score. Have fun and be safe.
As far as equipment, use what you have. See what everyone else is using. Them you can decide
Good luck. Hope to see you there.

Re: Feb New Holland IDPA
I'll be heading out there tomorrow (3/3/13). First time to New Holland and first match (or anything else) I've shot since October.
If you see some guy making a fool out of himself with a CZ, say hey.

Competition shooting allows you to work on certain skills, and I've learned some things from some of the best competition shooters out there.
It's important to keep things in perspective though.
Things in the real world tend to change somewhat when the bad guy is shooting back at you.
