Check your local gun clubs. The ones around Harrisburg/Carlisle all offer NRA certified courses. Most even have ladies only classes where she will be shooting with other women. Typical costs are in the $25-$35 range with you providing the firearm and ammo. The fees pay for class materials (NRA booklet, safety book, ear plugs, etc), targets, and backboards.

This class is coming up at Wicen's, and it looks pretty good. I have been shooting for a little while, but this looks like fun, and since I haven't tried a shotgun yet, I can shoot one and see if I should put one on "the list".

    Getting Comfortable w/Firearms - Ladies only - Day 1 of 2
    When
    Friday, May 10, 2013
    Where
    Wicen's Shooting Range
    Description
"Getting Comfortable with Firearms" is a class for the person interested in firearms, but with very little firearm experience. They will learn the difference between pistols, rifles and shotguns, and have the opportunity to safely handle and shoot at least one of each, under the immediate supervision of an NRA Certified Instructor.

The May 10-11 classes are for LADIES ONLY. Couples classes will be offered in June - date to be determined.

This is a 2-day class, with Friday 7-9 pm and Saturday either 9-11am OR 1-3 pm session.
Cost $50 total. Lead Instructor: Lori Wicen, loriwicen@yahoo.com

Friday evening is an after-hours range tour, followed by classroom discussion on safety, gun types and operations, safe storage, and handling of unloaded pistols, rifles and shotguns in a supervised setting.

Saturday - each session will have the ladies split into 3 groups, rotating between pistol, rifle and shotgun, shooting safely with Certified NRA Instructors to coach them each step of the way.
