I like to keep my shotguns simple. Standard stocks, extra ammo, a good set of sights, sling mount and a light.

Be more specific about what you're looking to do with it. Personally, I would get rid of the Speedfeed pistol grip. I had one for less than an hour before I took it off and was packaging it back up to return it. HATED IT! The grip felt awful to me. If you like the idea of a pistol grip, look into a Mesa Tactical Urbino stock. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Whatever you do, please don't put a warhammer or some other hideous, godless rail on it. I made that mistakes years ago, turned one of my 870s into the most impractical shotgun you've ever seen because I thought it looked cool. Well, I stopped thinking it looked cool when I could hardly shoot it because the extra weight and all the crap all over it made my drills way harder than they needed to be. My signature on the shotgun world forum is 'you can win the beauty contest but still lose the gun fight. In other words, don't put a bunch of useless crap on your gun!'. The only reason I don't use it on this forum is because it's too long.

My 870 has a standard stock with a Supercell recoil pad, Midwest Industries left hand sling mount, Mesa Tactical 6 round Sureshell, Streamlight TLR-1S on a CDM Gear BMT mount and a custom 7 round magazine tube. Full police magnum parts conversion, polished chamber and a Nordic Components follower and magazine spring. I use an Outdoor Connection A TAC single point sling with two shell loops that I sewed onto it.

The Magpul furniture I put on my 870 is the most comfortable and ergonomic I've ever experienced. If they made similiar furniture for my Benelli M4, it too would be wearing Magpul.

My stock now is the factory stock remington stock with a pistol grip. I really like the magpul set up I may go that route but its pricey. Also they're some fine set ups you guys got there as well. This is my first remington I usually have been a Mossberg guy in the past.

The Magpul stuff looks so good I'd like the same kit on my Mossy.

I like to keep my "utility" shotgun simple and functional. Bantam/youth Hogue butt stock to shorten up OAL for tight corners, side saddle shell holder, and I took the heat shield off. I'd like an XS big dot front sight, a sling, and a light, then I'm done I think.

    There are certainly prettier shotguns,

They showed it a SHOT, though who knows how long it'll take before we can buy em

That is a beautiful looking 870. I'm picking one up tomorrow with the Magpul furniture from my local fun shop to replace the UTS-15 I returned this morning. I can't wait to try the 870 for myself.

Question - do you folks think a heat shield or barrel shroud is necessary? If so, which one would you recommend?
Don't wish ill for your enemies. Plan it.
