Shield 9mm Does tricks
Just wondering if a gun that ejects some of its spent cases on your head can be normal for some guns. I am hoping that this is only a break in problem for this gun as our other 9mm shield never did this. (or any other gun)

Re: Shield 9mm Does tricks
I would guess it just needs to be broken in. My fullsize M&P and to a lesser degree, my M&P 9c ejected brass on my head, upper right arm, etc. when they were new but got better after being shot more.

My sidearm doesn't throw brass around until I tell it to. Oh wait, I shoot a wheelgun....

Re: Shield 9mm Does tricks
It can. Most of the time I have seen this, it has been caused by user error, but it could also be a gun thing.

Re: Shield 9mm Does tricks
I have been reading posts on other forums about brass to the face, BTF if you please, and some of the Gen 4 Glocks, especially 9x19's have been prone to this. Im not sure if it was a small percentage of pistols or what. Also not sure that there is one agreed upon culprit for this but one explanation I read that seemed to have some traction was the extractor. If you google it some threads should pop up. Im not saying that is whats happening with your Shield...just saying that it isn't uncommon.
I would break it in some more and see if she smooths out. Keep us posted.

Re: Shield 9mm Does tricks
When I was developing loads for my M&P9FS, lower powered loads would eject into my forehead. As the powder charge was increased, ejection moved to the right of my head, and then away.
At that time the pistol had over 1,000 rounds through it so it was already broken in. So I'd say it's likely that the ejection target will move away from your head as the pistol breaks in.

Re: Shield 9mm Does tricks
As others have said, break it in some more and see what happens. Also, try full power loads, it probably ejects them normally.
My M&P FS did it even after break-in, sent it back to S&W and they replaced the extractor, it definitely helped but with training loads, I'll still get 1 out of every 200 or so back on the head. Don't like it but I'm keeping it.

check your wrist, if your letting it flip back a little it will change the ejection angle.
