    Default 7.62x39 Info

I saw some 7.62x39 for sale at an antique store. The guy wanted $6 for 20 rounds. It comes in 10 round plastic containers on a yellow cardboard back. I know I've seen the stuff before but I can't recall what it is. It is some Chinese steel core? Is it corrosive? The guy said he had cases of it, so once I hash out how much I want to buy I'll let everyone know where it is.

He also had a .410 Enfield for $350, but I don't know if it has been modified for standard commercial ammo.

Your best bet would be to look up the headstamp. Its hard to tell if it is steel cored or steel jacketed. Both will attract a magnet (and both are OK on barrels)

I would be safe and always treat it like it is corrosive. Windex works good as a cleaner.

    Look like this?

This one has plastic bullets. Note the black color.

If the lettering is the same on the back, I believe it's German, but that's as much as I can comfortably guess at the moment.

I did not hold it in my hands and I only looked at it from 4 feet away. He had it behind his counter so none of it would walk away I guess, so I can't confirm any specifics on it until I go back next weekend.

Good lord, I'm in the middle of some....compelling online visual material...and someone tugs my leash.

Hmmm....East German UbungPatronen (practice) ammunition. Should be 62 grain plastic core bullet. OD green laquered cases, plastic 10 round blister pack, marked "M43 UB" somewhere.

Doesn't always cycle well in some SKS rifles, but should run fine in AKs, but with reduced recoil and range. Somewhere in the packaging should be an elevation correction chart for AKs & RPKs. If you can't find it, PM me & I'll look for it.

Good stuff for indoctrinating beginners on the AK. Got several girls hooked on AKs by slipping this stuff in the mag initially, then switching to regular ammunition later.

Was initially advertised as "counterterrorist" ammunition by the peddler, the late Paragon Sales, IIRC. Can't recall terrorists turning on their client states...but, whatever.

Note that the stuff in the first pic is not the same. Appears to be a standard bullet.

    That's plain M43 ball ammunition.
