If he is frightened by a rifle in a case in the back seat of a car, maybe he should look for a new line of work.

A lot of DUIs start out as a speeding ticket.

"Yes, but it's unloaded and nothing to worry about."

    Or, even, better,

"No, it's actually a case full of various sizes of dildoes. I'm hosting a sex toy party in half an hour, and you're invited."

I got pulled over for "looking suprised" when I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a cop right on my ass. I am a pretty observany guy and did not notice him. When he got to my widow he said, " when you made eye contact with me you had a "suprised look" on your face" I asked what law I was breaking by having such a look and he said I was acting suspiciously.

No ticket but he was fishing and you can get pulled over ANYTIME FOR ANYTHING.

... He was like "is that a rifle in that case" to which I replied "yes" Depending on your own comfort level, you answer accordingly. If the case were generic, you could reply, "Not of your concern", but if emblazoned with a firearms manufacturer name or logo, you could still respond the same, or give it up, but as stated, that depends on you.. He promply got all scared and told me "not to make any moves towards the rifle" in a pretty loud and obnoxious tone. Knee jerk reactions don't need a knee jerk response, which might exacerbate the situation.

    Hilarious.

Yeah you need to not be a target, and maybe cover your case up just to avoid a hassle, not that you should have to, but people are retarded. I carry a Digi camo poncho liner, that i cover my cargo with regardless of what it is. Theres no reason for anyone to know what i have, and they have no right to search my vehicle without me screwing up bigtime.

So, keep your long arms legitimate for transport, keep them out of sight. Either work on not speeding, raise your SA, or invest in a radar detector to at least give you some kind of chance.

And the most important lesson of all, don't be a ricer. Its just tickets waiting to happen. Not that im saying you are, but kids these days...

I once bought a rifle case at a store and drove it home without a rifle inside. Should the mere presence of a rifle case subject me to a verbal search? NO. I can only think of three answers that I would consider appropriate.

    no reply

I do not consent to any searches.

    No.
Let us hope for the best, but let us also prepare for the worst.

Tell him you are carrying your own long arm of the law. Seriously, as several others have already written, the less you say, the better off you are. Part of that is saying what you have to say politely. Regardless if the right or wrong of the situation, he can make your life miserable. Being polite does not mean submission to everything he demands either. It just means being polite. Don't give him opportunity to jack you up.

In this specific case (ha ha, another pun) it is hard to do anything different than acknowledge you have a rifle. But you could ask him if he really thinks you are going to be able to leap out of the car, unease the gun, load it, and then threaten him with it before he would notice what you were doing.
