Default Two-thirds of U.S. weapons owners would 'defy' a federal gun ban

An interesting little factoid has emerged from a new Fox News poll of U.S. voters: Personal sentiments are strong and defiant among many U.S. gun owners.

Question 46 in the wide-ranging survey of more than 1,000 registered voters asks if there is a gun in the household. Overall, 52 percent of the respondents said yes, someone in their home owned a gun. That number included 65 percent of Republicans, 59 percent of conservatives, 38 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of liberals.

But on to Question 47, addressed to those with a gun in their home: "If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?"

The response: 65 percent reported they would "defy the law." That incudes 70 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of conservatives, 52 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of liberal.....

That's actually a fascinating bit of information. Thanks for posting it.

Many people I know (and who I see post online) are operating under the false assumption that most democrats/liberals don't own guns (excepting hunters, of course). Did the poll say where those voters polled come from? That might be good to know, too. (I'm sure the numbers regarding non-voters are similar - if not even greater.)

Among those left-leaning gun-owners, however, it doesn't surprise me so many would refuse to comply. Historically, the left hasn't the respect for rule of law the right does - no arguing that. Just as amazing, though, is the number of republicans/conservatives who'd defy new gun regulation. That shows how much they value their freedom (and what little liberty we've remaining). To a conservative, breaking the law is no small matter - even an unjust or seemingly inconsequential law.

And yet Obama insists a large majority of Americans demand strong new regulations to stop "mass killings" - which almost exclusively have been perpetrated by far-left liberals, by the way. Did you see this poll, Mr President? Do you truly understand what it means?

Yeah. It's been a long time since I read a poll that was so telling and from which so much really valuable information could be gleaned. I'm surprised others haven't commented. Perhaps it's worth another look, folks!

    Thanks again!

The President only means his loyal subjects want more gun control not the everyday person that gets up in the morning and goes to work trying to live within their means.

Actually, Obama is correct. And I agree, we need new regulation to stop mass killings.

We need to identify and control psychotics before they hurt someone (regardless of the means they may choose).

This should not be a surprise, those same people probably defy STOP signs on a daily basis.

Someone please rep him for the spot on Atlas Shrugged quote. That is exactly what this is, exactly why the tax code is what it is, exactly why Ocare is what it is.
    Kudos for digging that up.

Some towns and cities within PA have passed "Lost or Stolen" ordinances so folks who lost their firearms in a "boating accident" may need to report to the local PD what was lost, when, where, and how. Currently, PA does not require a bill of sale for long-guns and last I checked, gun "buy back" programs were anonymous. In either of these situations, no guns were lost or stolen so there is no need to report any information. Just saying...
