    Default Re: Advice on 75gr BTHP . . . H335?

I have shot about 3000 Horn 75gr. HPBT and maybe 3500 75gr AMAX. The HPBT (AR-15, 223) are seated to magazine length or 2.35” if used in a modified magazine. I seat the AMAX to 2.60 and feed one at a time, again AR-15. I use 23-24 grains of WC-844, H335, Reloader ? and 4895 (either one ). The 75 gr (either one) along with the 80 gr Sierra work well in all 7 of my 1-9 AR’s. My 1-7, 22-250 won’t shoot the 80’s but will shoot either of the 75’s. Not me, but one of my rifles and ammo shot a prefect score a Camp Perry, sitting, rapid fire, at 200 yds, 75 gr HPBT’s.

At the range today, shot groups with 22.0 to 24 gr Varget in 0.5gr increments. Groups were over 1" at 100 yards until 24.0 when I hit .75".

I had planned on making a 24.5gr load, but after making one round I was worried it was too close to compressed, even though one of my sources listed a 25.0gr compressed load as the max. At the range I decided to fire that one round, and it grouped inside the 24.0 spread. All COLs were 2.250 and were fired out of the Sako.

Won't be back to the range until March, but plan on repeating, say, 23.8 to 24.8 gr in smaller increments. Will also try H-335 and V N-140.

Did not do so well with the 80gr Amax, COL 2.39 and single fed. Started at 21.5 to 23.5gr Varget and none of the groups were satisfactory. Not going to re-try Varget here - by then the Viht N-140 should be here. But since Vihtavuori doesn't list N-140 on their web site any more . . . well, I got 8 lbs coming lol so its gonna get used in any case.

Great info - thanks much for the detail. Will work with H-335 in March with your data in mind.
