Masked gunman killed in botched Garfield robbery identified

A man was killed in a botched robbery in Garfield Wednesday night, Pittsburgh police said.
Major Crimes Lt. Dan Herrmann said two young men were inside a house in the 5300 block of Browns Way playing video games around 6 p.m. when someone knocked at the door. One of the men, who lives there with his mother and brother, told police he was hesitant to open the door and when he did he was greeted by a masked man holding a gun.
Lt. Herrmann said the resident tried to immediately close the door as the masked man fired through it, grazing the resident in the head with a bullet.
The resident's friend grabbed his own gun and exchanged fire with the man at the door, who was struck at least four times, police said.
Medics arrived on the scene and took the masked man to UPMC Presbyterian, where he was pronounced dead. Lt. Herrmann said several bullets struck him in the face.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the gunman as Michael Andrews, 27, of East Hills.
Emergency crews found the resident's friend in the 5300 block of Kincaid Street with a gunshot wound to his ribs and took him to Presbyterian. Police determined he had come from the house on Browns Way, according to a police press release this morning.
The resident, who suffered a gunshot wound to the back and a graze wound on his face, ran next door to a neighbor's house before police arrived and was driven to West Penn Hospital, where he was transferred to Presbyterian, police said.
Police are not releasing the names of the two injured, who were both in serious condition today.
Lt. Herrmann said the shooting was likely a robbery attempt. Police are trying to determine what the suspect was seeking and believe others may have been involved.
No charges have been filed. Police recovered several firearms in connection with the shooting.
Police ask anyone with information to call the city's homicide squad at 412-323-7161.

Re: Masked gunman killed in botched Garfield robbery
I'm wondering what the homeowner's friend was doing wandering the streets after getting shot and all that. Almost seems like he was trying to get away from the scene... Unless he was trying to get somewhere else for help.
