blanks for dry fire drill

What do you use for dry fire drills? I've heard of people taking spent cases and filling them with foam to give the hammer something to hit. I'm not able to spend lots on snap-caps and I feel a little wary of repeated dry firing without anything for the hammer to contact.

What do you think?

Snap caps will only cost you about 8-11 bux. using spent shell cases will just jam and bend when you try to cycle them.


I just dry fire without any snap caps and never had a problem.

What gun are you planning to dry fire? Most modern guns are perfectly ok to dry fire with nothing in the chamber.

i've dry fired my glocks many tens of thousands of times with nothing in the chamber...they still work fine. so, if you happen to have a glock, at least, i would say don't worry about it.

I'm too broke to spend money on fake bullets when 50 real ones cost the same.

I picked this up from some other people and wish I had the picture but you can get a rubber O ring and squeeze it into the gap where the end of the firing pin contacts the hammer. Cushions the fall.

You can use a earplug piece to jam into the cutout for the hammer also apparently. For actual caps I have gotten recommendations for Azoom ones.

I use the AZOOM Pachmeyers. They have nice rubber primers that won't damage your firing pin and last forever. Here is a link. Midway has good prices on them.
