    Default My Kimber easy fix

Like a lot of people, I have a Kimber Ultra Covert II that had a failure to feed problem. My feed problem would only happen when I went to chamber the first round. I have never had it fail to feed after that during cycling. Today, while I was cleaning it, I took the barrel out to my shop. I took my dremel tool and put a small bullet shaped buffing wheel on it, used some rouge buffing compound and buffed the snot out of the feed ramp. It looked like a mirror when I was finished. It works flawlessly now. Loads every time. I did notice some machining scratches on the feed ramp which is why I decided to buff it out. It was an easy fix that only took a few minutes. Hope it helps anyone having the same problem.

Kimber is notorious for cutting their chambers on the tight side of the tolerance spec.

It's a good place to start if you know the mags are working right. Sometimes, removing just a couple microns of metal and making it smooth is all it takes. Seen it many times.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

This is why some manufacturers refuse to even talk to you about your 1911 problems unless you have a certain number of rounds thru it. I think Kimber is 800-1000. I know there are some as high as 1200-1400 rounds. The machine marks in the feed ramp would typically be worked out by feeding by then. Glad yours worked out! I know I absolutely love my Kimber.
