Descriptions of Legal Implements for Big Game Hunting

    Implement

    Description

    Bow

    Muzzleloader

Firearm loaded through the muzzle, a minimum bore of .44 inches and shooting a single projectile. Scopes may now be used during the Special Muzzleloading Season in addition to the Regular Big Game Season and the Early Bear Season. See Muzzleloading section of regulations for special requirements during the muzzleloading season.

    Handgun*

any centerfire pistol or revolver. Barrel length maximum is 16 inches
(NOTE: Possession of handguns in New York State requires a NYS Pistol Permit. New York does not recognize permits issued by other states.)

    Shotgun*

Must be 20 gauge of larger and fire a single projectile, rifling in the barrel or choke is allowed

    Rifle*

    any centerfire rifle.

    * It is illegal to hunt with:

    •an autoloading firearm that holds more than 6 shells (except an autoloading pistol with a barrel length under 8 inches);
•any firearm equipped with a silencer.

    From this page
    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28182.html

    Manner of Taking

It is illegal to take or hunt wildlife:
    ~snip~
•with any firearm equipped with a silencer.
•with any firearm which continues to fire as long as the trigger is held back (an automatic firearm).
    ~snip~
•with any semi-automatic firearm with a capacity to hold more than 6 rounds, EXCEPT the following semi-automatic firearms:
1.firearms using .22 or .17 caliber rimfire ammunition, or
2.firearms altered to reduce their capacity to no more than 6 shells at one time in the magazine and chamber combined, or
3.autoloading pistols with a barrel length of less than eight inches.

then with the new ban in ALL of New York state

In addition to outlawing a broader array of military-style weapons, the measure restricts ammunition magazines to seven rounds, down from the current 10,
It appears that some of these same semi-auto guns were legal to hunt with in NY now will have extra regulations put on them for hunters.

it appears that m1 grand that was legal have in restrictive NY will be tightly controlled

    ^^^THIS^^^

We here ALL know and understand what the TRUE purpose of the 2nd Amendment is. I started this thread to give people an in-your-face type of argument that refutes that "no one needs an "assault rifle" to hunt."

I said it on another thread, STOP trying to justify assault rifles. That's NOT the question. The question is, what public benefit is there from banning assault rifles? Is that justifiable? The previous AW ban did nothing for homicide rates or crime. The new proposal won't, either.
