    Default What's a good brand of Taser/stungun?

Someone asked me this today and I have no experience with these devices. Can someone recommend a good brand? I'm not even sure who sells tasers. (I've seen them at gun shows.)

The person in question wants to ge one for her adult daughter (a nurse) who occasionally works late.

    Thanks.

To carry? Technically...no. Especially not in Philthy.

She should check her work place policy. She may not be permitted to bring OC or a Tazer to work.

There is a difference between Tasers and stun guns. Tasers are the ones the cops use with the "flying fish hooks". You can buy the civilain version called the C2. Stun guns are the ones you see/hear at all the gun shows and you have to be up close and personal to use. There are many different brands that go past 1mil volts. They are both legal in PA.

Thanks for the replies. I beleive she was talking about the stun gun, so I'll go with that.

Any idea where to buy? Are they available in stores or should she just go on line?

Not a fan of the stun gun for SD. It requires female users to either carry in hand or on a belt to deploy semi-effectively. Most women will end up carrying it in, and trying to retrieve it from, their purse. Secondly, the stun gun requires the user to be (at most) arms length to deploy the device. That's a little to close for comfort in my book.

IMHO, pepper spray (OC) is a better way to go. The major issue I have with pepper spray is self contamination, as when facing a wind, or in a closed area like a car or elevator.

Lastly, I wouldn't recommend carrying OC if the user has any respiratory problems.
