    Default 3D printed magazines

You still have to make the spring out of wire, but other than that....

So, background checks for 3D printers?

This is very similar to the printing press leading to the downfall of kings. I am not a huge proponent of technology as it always brings new problems. However, this brings a whole new element to the fight by the "progressives" to take away your ability to resist.

By no means am I advocating not participating in the political fight. Any politician that is against your enumerated right of resistance against tyranny will just as soon confiscate your 401(k) to support the welfare state and have you "re-educated" if you think differently. The 2A is a litmus test that is a defining issue for me.

I would want metal reinforcement before I would consider them anything other than just toy mags. I'm not up on the material either, so who knows. It's definitely interesting and I enjoy seeing their progress.

Now only image if pushed their CAD files out to a CNC mill ... they could actually make things out of metal

btw .. the 3d printer they are using isn't much cheaper than a low end CNC mill

The beauty is though, that the 3D printers will become much cheaper, in very short order. The technology is evolving rapidly.

My buddies company sells them, so I know a decent amount about their progression, so I thought I would pass this idea along.

Think of this use. A space shuttle carries on it a 3D printer and some basic materials, along with a computer with plans for every single part of the ship. If something breaks, they may be able to simply replace it by hitting the print button.

This may also be doable in military situations or even the trunk of your car on a long road trip. Imagine being able vertually have ever spare part possible in your trunk?

Just ideas, but I can do alot with my Iphone that I am sure sounded insane 5 years ago.

I look at 3D printing now as computers were in the 80s. They're finally getting to the level in which some early adopting consumers can get it and they're functionality while cool isn't particularly worth the cost. However, it'll go the same way of computers in which costs will rapidly drop while functionality improves. I'm sure there will be attempts to regulate 3D printers, but the fact that you can print a 3D printer with a 3D printer will make that task nearly impossible. I'm very excited to see this technology develop especially in being able to print off replacement parts for guns, reloading presses, etc.

What they need to do is run JB weld through the printer. That'll hold up for sure.
