Default Permit To Carry Concealed Handgun

My permit says Permit To Carry A Concealed Handgun.Does this mean a rifle behind the seat would be illegal?I am from Virginia but this is the site I like best because there seems to be mo knowledgable people here.

I hunted with a Wytheville LEO once (off 77 somewhere) years ago. We both put rifles behind the seat of my truck. Not sure what the "actual" answer would be.....but he didn't think anything of it. But then, who cares about anything in Wytheville?

Are you asking for VA or PA?

No loaded rifles in vehicles in PA, permit or not.

    Can't help on VA....

I really think you need to refer to the Va. Troopers, or research Va. Firearms code on the internet.

Or, try the gun shop near the airport......forget the name. Nice guy. He was under scrutiny about selling to undercover NYPD and the Va Tech idiot.

    Good luck in your research.

I thought having a carry permit would eliminate the question of whether i was legally carrying a firearm.I have no need for a loaded rifle or shotgun but is it legal to have one or the other behind the seat if it isnt loaded?

Don't ask a VA Gun Shop owner about PA law. That is kind of silly. Listen to Patriot. He is spot on.

    Be safe.

In general, no loaded long guns in vehicles. Check this site for PA Uniforms Firearms Act:
    http://www.acslpa.org/pa_uniform_firearms_act.htm

    [QUOTE]

§6106.1. Carrying Loaded Weapons Other Than Firearms.

    (a) General rule.—Except as provided in Title 34 (relating to game), no person shall carry a loaded pistol, revolver, shotgun or rifle, other than a firearm as defined in section 6102 (relating to definitions), in any vehicle The provisions of this section shall not apply to persons excepted from the requirement of a license to carry firearms under section 6106(b)( 1), (2), (5) or (6) (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license) nor shall the provi*sions of this section be construed to permit persons to carry firearms in a vehicle where such conduct is prohibited by section 6106.
    Firearms defined as:

    §61O2. Definitions.
“Firearm.” Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is applicable.
In general, a loaded "firearm" (handgun, SBR, SBS)
is OK with an LTCF. Loaded long guns are generally prohibited in vehicles.

I'm not a lawyer: read the whole section yourself to be sure, or better yet, check with a PA lawyer.
