Default AR-15 5.45mm upper - pays for itself...

...after about 2500 rounds (at 10 cents per round vs. 35 cents per round decent .223/5.56).

Personally, I won't be getting one. I expect imported military ammo to be banned next year (based on nothing but my own gut instinct). That's probably wishful thinking, they'll proably ban all military ammo.

There's alot of 5.45 out there in other countries and even if it don't get banned, combloc calibers in AK mags have never worked. 7.62x69 AR mags are usually junk in anything over 10rnders. Unless I were using this upper with a MGW hydra lower and a AK-74 mag well I'd never buy one. These calibers don't feed well out of mags designed as an afterthought.

I don't have all the details, but they are saying these use a regular AR-15 lower, unmodified magwell, regular AR-15 magazines with a modified follower.

Rumor in the street is that if Hil-Bama gets in office - a lot of $600.00 Tantals will become wallhangers.

I kinda think that its an extreme view; Wolf is making 5.45x39 commercially - just nowhere NEAR as cheap as the corrosive mil-surp that can be found, in which case the WASR2 becomes a safe-queen while I shoot the WASR22.

I've got about $1K invested in 12K of 5.45 and two SAR-2s. If these uppers work I'll buy one so that I can run one of my 16s in 5.45 to plink with and save my 5.56.

Alexander Arms used to make an AR15 in this caliber and from all accounts I have seen they worked great.

this caliber is really interesting to me, but I doubt I'll be buying an ar-15 to shoot it.

    still cool to know.
